Pope’s condolences to Guatemala’s “Agatha” storm victims.
(June 02,2010) Pope Benedict XVI on Tuesday expressed his profound condolences,
prayers and solidarity to the people of Guatemala, suffering untold damage from a
rain storm that hit Guatemala City on Saturday. The Pope’s message of concern and
affection for the victims, the injured and the homeless was sent by Vatican Secretary
of State Cardinal Tarciscio Bertone to the Guatemalan Church and people. The terrible
Tropical storm Agatha that bore down on the central American country claimed at
least 180 people, injured hundreds and left numerous families homeless. Pope Benedict
called on the international community, national institutions and all people of goodwill
to provide speedy and effective assistance to the people and the country to overcome
their difficulties.
