Cardinal Lourdusamy celebrates Silver Jubilee of Cardinalate
(May 26,2010) Retired Indian Cardinal Simon Lourdusamy on Tuesday, celebrated the
Silver jubilee anniversary of his Cardinalate by con-celebrating Mass in his Titular
Church in Rome, with a few church officials and numerous priests. The Cardinal, who
is resident in Rome, celebrated the Mass in St. Maria in Fornaci Church, not far from
Vatican City. It was well attended by numerous Indian priests, nuns and lay people
residing in Rome, as well as Italian parishioners of the Church. Cardinal Leonardo
Sandri, Prefect of the Churches for Oriental Churches sent a message of congratulations
to Cardinal Lourdusamy, former Prefect of the same Congregation, thanking him for
his dedicated service to the Church. Cardinal Lourdusamy was born 5th Feb. 1924
in Pondicherry, southern India. He was ordained priest 21st Dec. 1951,
consecrated bishop 22 Aug.1962, and elevated 13 years later to the rank of Cardinal
by late Pope John II in the consistory of 25th May 1985
