(May 24, 2010) Later, before reciting the weekly midday ‘Regina Coeli’ Marian prayer,
the Pope said that "There is no Pentecost without the Virgin Mary.” Just as it was
in the Upper Room at the first Pentecost so is it always in every place and every
time, the Pope said. In this regard he recalled his recent visit to the Marian shrine
of Fatima, in Portugal, where a massive crowd were of one heart and one soul, in the
spirit of a new Pentecost. Similarly, in the great and smaller shrine around the
world, the Pope said, Pentecost lives continually in the Church. After the Marian
prayer, the pontiff called on all Christians in China and the world to celebrate the
World Day of Prayer for the Church in China on May 24, Monday, the feast of Mary Help
of Christians, which he established with a letter to Chinese Catholics in 2007.
While the faithful in China are praying that the unity among themselves and with the
universal Church will grow ever deeper, the Pope said, Catholics in the world - especially
those who are of Chinese origin - will join them in prayer and charity, that the Holy
Spirit pours into our hearts, especially in today's solemnity. "
