(May 18,2010) On the occasion of the March for Peace held on Sunday from Perugia
to Assisi, central Italy, a prayerful message for a firm commitment to peace was
sent in the name of Pope Benedict XVI to the Bishop of Assisi. The message sent
by Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarciscio Bertone, said that the Pope calls
for a generous and firm commitment of all people of goodwill to work for enduring
peace and justice through patient dialogue. Entrusting his intercession for peace
to St. Francis of Assisi, well known for his untiring service in the cause of peace,
the message expressed the Pope’s prayers and conveyed his apostolic blessing. Despite
the heavy rain on Sunday, hundreds of people from all over Italy joined the March
for peace.
