(April 21, 2010) Catholics in Hong Kong are showing their solidarity with the
Chinese Province of Qinghai, which endured a 6.9-magnitude earthquake last week ,
claiming the lives of more than 2,000 people. In response to the April 14 quake, parishes
in Hong Kong prayed for the victims during Sunday Masses. Bishop John Tong of Hong
Kong, instructed parishes to arrange a special donation at next Sunday's Mass and
encouraged the faithful to be generous in their donations. Another special collection
scheduled for April 25 is to benefit the diocesan seminary. The Chinese government
declared Wednesday as a national day of mourning.
