Church Plays Important Role in Maintaining Peace During Elections
(14 April 10-RV) Sudan's ruling party today said it would invite opposition groups
to join the government if it won the country's general elections. Sudan is four days
into presidential and legislative elections designed to usher the oil-producer to
democracy more than two decades after a military-led coup. Lydia O’Kane spoke to Vincent
Bolt who is the Country Representative for Sudan with the UK based Catholic aid agency
CAFOD. He told her about the church’s role in this poll and the importance of the
elections as the country prepares for a referendum on Southern secession in 2011.
