(March 25, 2010) A Catholic Charismatic Movement “Jesus Youth” in southern India’s
Kerala State is celebrating it’s 25th anniversary. The movement started by Kerala
youth 25 years ago, has now spread to 25 countries, said Subin Jacob, who coordinates
the movement in India. He told UCA News that “For Jesus Youth, prayer is the backbone
of all its programs. He said the movement is conducting round-the-clock adoration
of the Blessed Sacrament for a month, in each of 13 regions of the Catholic Bishops’
Conference of India. Apart from this, the group has set up perpetual adoration centers
in Bangalore, Karnataka State and New Delhi, he said. Jacob mentioned that
another jubilee program is to carry a crucifix across India during the year. The
cross contains soil from 18 countries, brought by some 320 members, who attended an
international assembly held in Kerala’s capital city of Kochi last December. Jacob
said the movement plans to begin planting trees outside houses, institutions and
alongside roads from June 5, as part of the jubilee program. It is also organizing
pilgrimages to various shrines in India and sponsoring the studies of some 2,500 children
across India, he added. The jubilee will conclude with a conference in Kochi from
Dec.28 to Jan 1st, 2011. About 15.000 members from all over the world are expected
to attend.
