Eritrean Refugees Pressured by Consulate in Kampala
(17 Feb 10 - RV) Eritrea refugees living in Kampala, Uganda are being pressured by
the recently opened Eritrean Consulate to sign a petition opposing the imposition
of United Nations sanctions on their country. The sanctions are a response to Eritrea’s
backing of Islamist rebels in neighbouring Somalia. Dr. Khataza Gondwe is the Sub-Saharan
Africa team leader at Christian Solidarity Worldwide. She told us that signing this
petition is undermining the Eritreans’ refugee status in Uganda:
