Pope will lead Vespers to mark Feb. 2 World Day for Consecrated Life
(February 1, 2010) Pope Benedict XVI will mark the Catholic Church’s 14th
World Day for Consecrated Life on Tuesday with a solemn Vespers in the evening in
St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. The February 2nd liturgical feast of the
Presentation of the Lord is observed as the World Day for Consecrated Life throughout
the Catholic Church. All members of institutes of consecrated life and societies
of apostolic life have been invited to participate in the papal prayer service in
St. Peter’s Basilica, which will include the exposition of the Holy Sacrament, the
Vespers, adoration and Eucharistic Blessing. In 1997, Pope John Paul II instituted
World Day for Consecrated Life to celebrate and promote consecrated life throughout
the universal Church.
