Pope to preside at vespers concluding Week of prayer for Christian Unity
( 19 Jan.2010): Pope Benedict XVI will preside next Monday evening at the celebration
of the solemnity of the conversion of St. Paul at the conclusion of the Week of
Prayer for Christian Unity. The prayerful ceremony will be held in Rome’s Basilica
of St. Paul outside the Walls on January 25. The Catholic Church observes the Week
of Prayer for Christian Unity annually from January 18 to 25. The theme for this
year’s observance is taken from Luke’s Gospel - “You are witnesses of these things”.
Representatives of other Churches and ecclesial communities will be taking part
in the celebrations. Affirming that our proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus, will
be much more credible and effective, the more that we are united in his love as true
brothers, Pope Benedict invited religious communities and the faithful of all the
Roman dioceses to participate in the celebrations and pray fervently for the complete
unity of Christians.
