Thousands Cling to Life in Haiti as Massive Relief Effort Progresses
(16 January 10 –RV) At the top of our news broadcast this morning we have the latest
on the increasingly difficult situation in Haiti. Thousands of people remain trapped
beneath the rubble that once was the capital, Port au Prince, while those who escaped
the immediate destruction of Wednesday’s earthquake are now facing the threefold threat
of disease, exposure and starvation. The UN has made a flash appeal for more than
a half-billion US dollars in emergency aid, as Irene Lagan reports…
