Holy See and Russian Federation establish diplomatic relations

(Dec.10,2009): The Holy See and the Federation of Russia have agreed to establish diplomatic relations, said a communiqué from the Holy See’s Press Office on Wednesday. It said both the parties decided of common accord to establish diplomatic relations at the level of an Apostolic Nunciature on the part of the Holy See and an embassy on the part of the Federation of Russia. This decision had been taken earlier on December 3, when Russian President Dmitry Medvedev met Pope Benedict XVI in the Vatican .
