Thousands Still Remain in Shelters following Rains in India
(22 Oct 09 - RV) The worst floods to hit southern India in a century made 2.5 million
people homeless and left 250 dead. Tens of thousands of people are still living
in temporary government or makeshift shelters after heavy rains earlier this month
triggered flooding that swamped millions of acres of cropland. The worst affected
states are Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra. We spoke with Laura Sheahen,
the Catholic Relief Services Communications officer in the region. She told us
