(08 Oct 09 - RV) Alongside the formal presentations in the synod hall however, the
three week meeting also includes some lighter and uplifting side events, including
a concert on Thursday evening in the presence of both Pope Benedict and the Italian
president Giorgio Napolitano. The event entitled
"Young people against war” is being held to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the
outbreak of World War II. It includes work by Gustav Mahler and Felix Mendelsshon,
performed by an orchestra of outstanding young musicians from 10 different countries.
The concert has been organised by the Vatican’s council for promoting Christian
Unity, together with the German embassy to the Holy See and the European Kulturforum
