Pope appoints officials for upcoming African Synod of Bishops.


(Sept.23, 2009): - For the Second Special Assembly of the African Synod of Bishops to be held from 4 to 25 October, Pope Benedict XVI on Wed. appointed 3 Cardinals as members, namely Italian Cardinal Angelo Sodano, Dean of the College of Cardinals, Hungarian Cardinal Peter Erdo , President of the Episcopal Conference of Europe and French Cardinal Andrè Vingt-Trois, Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples. The Pope also appointed as members 17 Archbishops, among them one from the Philippines Archbishop Orlando B. Quevedo of Cotabato.
The Pope also appointed the auditors and experts for this African Synod, the theme of which is “The Church in Africa in the service of reconciliation, justice and peace. You are the salt of the Earth. You are the light of the world”
