(Aug.25,2009): “May priests be worthy ministers of Divine Mercy and responsible educators
of conscience, inspired by the example of St.John Mary Vianney, whose 150th death
anniversary is being celebrated in this year dedicated to priests”. This was the
message sent in Pope Benedict XVI’s name, by Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal
Tarciscio Bertone, for the 60th National Liturgical Week currently
being held in Barletta in southern Italy’s region of Apulia. (Puglia). The
theme of the Liturgical week that concludes Aug. 28th is “Celebrating
Mercy – Be reconciled to God” . The Papal message prayed for the success of the meeting
and expressed appreciation for its work carried out in the past decades. Stating
that liturgical weeks in all these years - offered bishops, priests, consecrated
persons and the faithful, a valuable opportunity to raise the community spirit and
liturgical practice, the Pope encouraged them to continue with fidelity and perseverance,
giving priority to properly form the consciences of believers. The Papal message
concluded with a prayer that the 60th Liturgical Week promote a revival
and renewal in the celebration of Mercy and significant experience of Divine forgiveness.
