Archbishop Moras sweeps for a clean Bangalore on Independence Day
(August 17, 2009) Morning joggers and walkers were in for a surprise early morning
on August 15th, India’s Independence day on seeing Archbishop Bernard Moras
of Bangalore, joining members of Anonymous India Trust in sweeping the road and the
neighbouring compound near Archbishops House. The Archbishop was joined by priest
staff in the Archbishop's House in his support to 'Clean Bangalore campaign" launched
by the Anonymous India Trust. Pavitra, an associate of the Trust who was filming
the campaign in various parts of Bangalore said, "The Trust is making an effort to
conscientize people of the importance of keeping our surroundings clean". Archbishop
Moras said, "When each of us keep our surroundings clean, we contribute to the overall
cleanliness of the city. The spread of disease and sickness is also because we have
at times overlooked our responsibilities of keeping our surrounding clean." A member
of the Trust said, "We thought it opportune to seek the support of important leaders
in society to set an example to others to follow. We are very happy that a religious
head in the person of the Archbishop has shown interest in our campaign".
