(23 Jul 09 - RV) Pope Benedict XVI nominated a new nuncio to Cuba on Thursday. Archbishop
Giovanni Angelo Becciu shall be the new diplomatic representative of the Holy See
to the Cuban government. Until now, Archbsihop Becciu has been apostolic nuncio
in Angola and São Tomé and Principe.

for Nekemte, Ethiopia Also on Thursday, Pope Benedict named Vincentian Fr.
Theodorus van Ruyjvenas the new vicar apostolic for Nekemte in Ethiopia. Until
now, bishop-elect van Ruyven has been Apostolic Administrator of Nekemte and Apostolic
Prefect of Jimma-Bonga. An Apostolic Vicariate is a provisional territorial jurisdiction
directly under the Apostolic See, and are usually headed by a titular bishop who exercises
the jurisdiction of the Pope. There are currently 81 Apostolic Vicariates in the
world, most of them in mission territories or very remote regions.
