(RV - 17 July 09) Afghanistan tops the United Nations list of 49 poorest countries
in today’s world.
In it’s annual report released today. the United Nations
Conference on Trade and Development warns that the world economic crisis will soon
take its toll on these nations and is urging a complete overhaul in development polices
financed by foreign aid.
Dr Zeljka Kozul-Wright, chief of the African Least
Developed Countries section of UNCTAD, argues that in this context "business as usual"
