Regional Spirituality Centre for Seminarians Opened
(July 15, 2009) In the International Year of Priests, the regional bishops of Madhya
Pradesh and Chhattisgarh have opened a spirituality centre aimed at the spiritual
formation of seminarians. Archbishop Joseph Augustine Charanakunnel of Raipur blessed
the centre July 7 at Risda village near Bilaspur city in Raipur Archdiocese and Archbishop
Leo Cornelio of Bhopal presided over the Eucharist. Seven bishops and the Jashpur
diocesan administrator of the region attended the inauguration ceremony, besides many
priests and religious of Raipur and other dioceses. The one-year course is intended
for seminarians after their philosophy studies and one year of regency, and before
they commence their theology course. This year eleven seminarians of the region will
attend the course. In his homily, Bishop Patras Minj of Ambikapur said God has called
priests to live a life of holiness in order to lead His people to live a holy life.
Archbishop Cornelio said the centre would prepare the future priests in spiritual
formation to prepare for their pastoral ministry. The focus of the centre will not
be on the academic studies, but on spiritual experience. This will help the seminarians
to discern their vocation to serve God and His people.
