(June 29, 2009) Extending his greetings at the Angelus on the 29th of
June, on the solemnly the holy Apostles Peter and Paul, special Patrons of the Church
of Rome, the Pope said “During this holiday I have a warm and special greeting, coupled
with heartfelt good wishes to the diocesan community of Rome, which the Divine Providence
has entrusted to my care, as the Successor of Peter. It's a greeting that would extend
to all the inhabitants of our city and the pilgrims and tourists in these days they
are visiting, coinciding with the closure of the Pauline Year.” Urging all to remain
faithful to the Christian vocation and not conformed to this world the Pope called
on them to be Disciples of Christ to be "living stones". After the Angelus, Pope Benedict
made the official announcement of the new Encyclical, Caritas in Veritate, Charity
in Truth. This encyclical continues the issues contained in Populorum Progressio of
Pope Paul VI. This is dated 29th of June, Solemnity of Saints Peter and
Paul - will explore some aspects of development in our era, in the light of love in
the truth. The Holy Father asked all to pray that this additional contribution that
the Church offers to humanity in its commitment to sustainable progress, in full respect
of human dignity and the real needs of all. Finally the Holy Father greeted all visitors
present for this Angelus, including the new Metropolitan Archbishops who have received
the pallium, accompanied by their relatives and friends and the Delegation of the
Patriarch of Constantinople, present for this joyous celebration. The common veneration
of these martyrs is a pledge of full communion and increasingly felt among Christians
all over the world.
