Appointment of the Auxiliary Bishop of Chittagong (Bangladesh)

(May 7, 2009) The Holy Father has appointed on May 7, 2009, Reverend Father Lawrence Subra Howlader, CSC, Master of Novices of the Congregation of Holy Cross, in Barisal, as the Auxiliary of the Diocese of Chittagong (Bangladesh), giving the bishop's seat holder Afufenia. Father Lawrence Subra Howlader, CSC, was born on 11 September 1965 in Noborgram, district of Barisal, in the Diocese of Chittagong. After studying in the Minor Seminary of Goumadi in Barisal, he entered the novitiate of the Congregation of the Holy Cross in 1987. He studied at Notre Dame College and the Major Seminary of Dhaka. He made his perpetual profession on 6 August 1993 and was ordained priest on 31 December 1994. Since his ordination, Fr Lawrence has been Vicar Mariamnagar a parish in the Diocese of Mymensingh till 1996. he was appointed Rector of the Minor Seminary in Jalchatra in 1998, and Vicar of Mariamnagar a parish in the Diocese of Mymensingh in 2000. During 2000-2004 he did his studies for the Licentiate in Psychology in Rome at the Pontifical Gregorian University; from 2005 he has been teaching at the Novitiate of the Holy Cross in Barisal; in 2006 he was elected Member of Provincial Council of the Institute.
