(22 April 09-RV) All people, regardless of race, gender or income have a moral right
to a healthy sustainable environment. This was the founding principle behind the decision
by environmental campaigners to mark April 22nd each year as Earth Day in order to
remind people of the importance of protecting the health of our planet. Pope Benedict,
has frequently described the need to confront climate change as “a moral obligation”. Kathleen
Rogers is the President of Earth Day Network and she spoke to us about how the Catholic
Church and lay people are getting involved.
