Vatican Announces Second Assembly on Church in China
(28 Mar 09 - RV) A second meeting of the Special Commission for the Catholic Church
in China was announced today .
The Commission, formed at the specific request
of Pope Benedict XVI, will hold its second plenary session here at the Vatican next
week, running from Monday March 30th through to April 1st ,
and includes members of the curia, representatives from the Chinese bishops conference
and religious congregations.
The first plenary assembly, held March of
last year, examined the reception inside and outside of the People’s Republic of
Pope Benedict’s 2007 letter to the Catholic faithful in China.
A press
office statement writes that this year important religious issues currently facing
the church in China will be discussed as well as aspects of the life of the Church
in the light of Pope Benedict’s letter.
