(4 March 09-RV) The US state of Washington will become the second state to allow doctors
to prescribe lethal doses of medication for terminally ill patients seeking to hasten
their deaths, tomorrow. Referred to by supporters as the “death with dignity act”,
the assisted suicide measure has been legal in the neighbouring state of Oregon for
10 years. Richard Doerflinger is the assistant director of the secretariat for pro
life activities at the United States conference of Catholic Bishops. He says that
