New Initiative Mobilizes US Catholics to Confront Global Poverty
(24 February 09-RV)Catholic Relief Services and the United States Conference of Catholic
Bishops have launched a Catholics Confront Global Poverty initiative. Introduced
at the annual Catholic Social Ministry Gathering on Capitol Hill yesterday, the two-year
nationwide effort calls upon one million Catholics to confront global poverty by defending
the life and dignity of people living in poverty throughout the world and to urge
the US to act and advocate on behalf of the poor. Steve Colecchi from the USCCB Office
of International Justice and Peace said the initiative calls on Catholics to reach
