Australia Announces Plans to Reduce Greenhouse Gases
(15 December 08-RV) Australia today announced a plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.Prime
Minister Kevin Rudd's government remains committed to its election promise of slashing
Australia's carbon emissions that are blamed for global warming by 60 percent from
2000 levels by 2050. But climate change policy documents released today set an interim
reduction range of only 5 percent to 15 percent by 2020, rising to 15 percent if world
governments reached an agreement next year in talks for a successor to the Kyoto Protocol.
We spoke to Environmentalist, Bishop Chris Toohey of Wilcannia Forbes, in Australia
