Sri Lanka's War Escalates With Scourge Of Child Soldiers
(13 Dec 08 - RV) The Catholic Church in Sri Lanka is asking for help to stop the scourge
of child soldiers and innocent civilians being used as human shields in the civil
war raging in the northern part of the island. The country’s religious leaders have
appealed to the government to stop its offensive and seek a political solution in
its war on Tamil Tiger rebels (LTTE). Government forces have been locked in intense
battles with the rebels on the edge of Kilinochchi for weeks despite predicting the
city's «imminent fall.» The Archbishop of Colombo, Oswald Gomis says with 70,000 people
