(01 Dec 08 - RV) Today is the 20th World AIDS Day, a recurrence dedicated
to raising awareness of the AIDSpandemic caused by the spread of HIV
infection. AIDS has killed more than 25 million people between 1981 and 2007, and
an estimated 33 million people worldwide live with HIV as of last year. Fr. Robert
Vitillo is the Special Advisor to Caritas Internationalis on HIV and AIDS. He told
us the Church has taken the lead in AIDS treatment and prevention, but has much work
to do in battling the stigma attached to the diseaseā¦
