A commemorative postal stamp on Saint Alphonsa was released during a day-long function
on November 16, Sunday in Delhi. Chief Post Master General (Delhi) P.K. Gopinath released
the Rs.15 stamp on India's first woman saint. It was handed it over to Supreme Court
Judge Cyriac Joseph. The celebration began with a concelebrated high mass with some
10 bishops and hundreds of priests joining the celebrations. The mass was followed
by a procession ion which an estimated 10,000 people participated. The procession
covered some three kilometres through the main roads of New Delhi. The stamp was
released at a function after the procession. The government has also reportedly decided
to release a coin honouring Saint Alphonsa. During afternoon, began a three-hour
long meeting in which people participated while enjoying the packed lunch distributed
at the venue. Archbishop Andrews Thazhathu led the celebration and Mass with other
bishops, including Archbishop Vincent Concessao of Delhi.
