Bangalore Church Team Meets Union Home Minister, Seeks Protection for Christians CBCI A
Church delegation from the Archdiocese of Bangalore met Union Home Minister Shivraj
Patil October 14 here and submitted a memorandum seeking protection for the persecuted
Christians in Karnataka. The team led by Father Amruthraj also expressed fears among
the community in the wake of the unabated attacks on churches in the southern Indian
state. The delegation apprised the minister of the “growing sense of insecurity and
increasing disappointment among the Christians over the continuing attacks and vandalisation
of churches in Karnataka. The memorandum expressed dissatisfaction at the initiatives
of the state government to contain the anti-Christian violence. “There are no second
thoughts on doubting that the Yeddyurappa-led BJP government is indifferent and non-committal
in its promise to stop the violence,” said the PRO of the Bangalore Archdiocese, Father
Adolf Washington. Addressing reporters after meeting Patil, Father Washington said
that the Union Minister for Home was not happy with what was happening in Karnataka
“and accepted our memorandum.”
