Pope hopes Christian-Islamic dialogue will help build respect for human dignity
(October 13, 2008) Pope Benedict XVI hopes that Christian-Muslim dialogue help build
respect for human dignity. This desire of the Pope was expressed in a brief message
to the 4th International Islamic-Christian Congress organized by the Focolari
Movement at its Mariapolis Centre at Rocca di Papa, near Rome. The Pope’s message,
sent by Vatican Secretary of State, was read at the meeting on Saturday, the penultimate
day of the October 9-12 congress on the theme, “Love and Mercy in the Bible and the
Koran.” In the message, read to over 200 Christian and Muslim participants, the
Pope wished that the congress give rise to renewed efforts of cordial brotherhood
and sincere commitment towards reciprocal dialogue with respect for the dignity of
every human person. The Holy Father prayed that the Most High and Merciful God always
continue to guide the journey of humanity in the path of justice and peace.
