Pope’s message to meeting of the Presidents of European Episcopal Conferences
(October 01, 2008):- Pope Benedict XVI called on the Church and the Media to make
the best possible use of the opportunities at their disposal for spreading the word
of God to the people of their respective countries. The Pope’s message was sent to
the participants of the Sept. 30 to Oct.3 meeting of the Presidents of European Episcopal
Conferences currently in session. The message, sent in the Pope’s name by Vatican
Secy. of State, Cardinal Tarciscio Bertone, was addressed to Cardinal Peter Erdo –
Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest, President of the Council of the Episcopal Conferences
of Europe,(CCEE). Noting that one of the first items to be explored at the meeting
is the relationship between the Church and the Media, the Papal message said : -
“In this year dedicated to St. Paul the Apostle, who expressed the truth of the Gospel
in terms accessible to a wide and varied audience, His Holiness prays especially,
that ways will be found to lead those engaged in the media to be ever more respectful
of the truth of information and the dignity of the human person, so that their message
will truly contribute to the building up of God’s Kingdom on Earth.”
