(25 Sept 08 - RV) Every year the International Maritime Organization celebrates World
Maritime Day. The day is used to focus attention on the importance of shipping safety,
maritime security and the marine environment. Celebrated today, the theme is the
IMO: 60 years in the service of shipping. The Secretary of the Pontifical Council
for Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant Peoples, is Archbishop Agostino Marchetto.
He says the day gives the world a chance to appreciate the importance of those who
work at sea.
