(September 18, 2008) The Muslim leaders in Karnataka have decided to protest the
Hindu fanatic violence on Christians and their churches in the state by the Pro Hindu
activists. Karnataka Imams Council is holding a dharna, meaning a sit in protest
in Bangalore on Thursday to condemn the attacks on places of worship in three districts
in the state. Mafti Ihathmul Haq, a Council official, in a statement said the attacks
on prayer halls and places of worship in three districts in Karnataka posed a threat
to the country's unity and strength. The statement said the Council’s protest dharna
in front of the Gandhi Statue aims to express Muslims opposition to violence. It also
demands immediate action against the culprits, the statement said.
