Political Rivals in Zimbabwe Hold New Round of Talks

(08 Sept 08-RV) South African President Thabo Mbeki met Zimbabwe's rival parties in Harare today in a new attempt to secure a power-sharing deal. The post-election talks are deadlocked over how to share executive power between Mugabe and Tsvangirai, putting off any chance of rescuing Zimbabwe from its economic collapse. Dennis Benton is the spokesperson for London’s Zimbabwe Vigil. He told us that it is unlikely that these new talks will have a positive outcome.
