(September 06,2008) The Chhattisgarh state of India police have detained and later
released four nuns of Missionaries of Charity after a group of suspected Hindu fanatics
accused them of converting children. The nuns of Mother Teresa’s congregation were
travelling from Raipur to Bhopal in a train with four children. The incident happened
when the train stopped at Durg railway station Friday late evening. At the station,
nearly 20 men allegedly belonging to some Hindu groups, who identified themselves
as bajarangis and members of VHP, shouted slogans accusing the nuns of “converting”
children forcibly made the nuns get off from the train, said a release form Global
council of Indian Christians. The nuns were taken to the railway police station and
later to the city police station. The Nuns were released at 2 30 morning of Saturday
September 6, and the children are in the governmental hospital.
