The Holy Father blesses a large bronze statue of Mother Teresa
(September 4, 2008) Macedonia’s capital Skopje, the birthplace of the world-famous
Catholic nun, Mother Teresa, has on Thursday presented a sculpture of her to the Vatican.
Skopje’s mayor Trifun Kostovski personally gave the present to Pope Benedict XVI during
an audience with his holiness. The sculpture made by the famous Macedonian artist
Tome Serafimovski. Hands are united in a sign of prayer and toes were deformed by
fatigue and the mileage to testify that God is love for every person without distinction
of race or religion is the simple message communicated by the three metre high bronze
statue of Mother Teresa. This great work recalls that for her religious mission there
was no need of words to explain. Her very person expressed faith, hope and charity
which were understood by all, especially the many religions of India. They travelled
long distances to see her, recognised her and called her Mother. The Pope has intended
to place the statue to the Roman parish, under construction, dedicated Blessed Mother
Teresa of Kolkotta. Until then it will remain in the courtyard of the house Gift
of Mary in the Vatican.
