Marian Conference Begins in Lourdes

(04 Sept 08 - RV) An  International Mariological Congress, organized by the Pontifical International Marian Academy  opens today in Lourdes, one week before Pope Benedict XVI is due to visit the shrine.

Pope Benedict  appointed the president emeritus of the Pontifical Council for Culture Cardinal Paul Poupard to chair the conference, which is titled  “The apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary Between history, faith and culture". Catholic, Orthodox and Lutheran theologians from across the globe will participate.
