Southern African Leaders Begin Summit

(16 Aug 08 - RV) Southern African leaders began a two-day summit in Johannesburg today, with hopes that stalled talks on Zimbabwe's power-sharing may get back on track. Both Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai are in Johannesburg for the SADC gathering, which is being chaired by South African President Thabo Mbeki. Regional pressure is mounting to find a way to end the country's political crisis. But, Dennis Benton of the Zimbabwe Vigil in London says the talks stand no chance of making any progress.
