(04 Aug 08 - RV) The Lambeth Conference of Anglican bishops from around the world
ended at the weekend with a renewed commitment to safeguard and strengthen the unity
of the worldwide communion. The Anglican Communion has been threatened by several
issues, including the moral status of homosexuality and homosexual activity, the possibility
of women’s’ ordination and the proposal of formal structures for the 38 independent
provinces and churches. Despite a number of traditionalist bishops staying away from
the two and a half week conference in Canterbury, Archbishop Rowan Williams announced
at a final press conference that the 670 participants had shown a strong desire to
preserve the unity of the Communion…
