G8 Concludes with No Clear Commitment on the Environment

(09 July 08 - RV) The Group of Eight Nations wrapped up their summit in Japan today saying they support a "shared vision" for action on climate change, which includes a long-term goal for cutting greenhouse gas emissions. However, despite recognising the need for "deep cuts" in global greenhouse gas emissions to fight global warming, the G8 stopped short of urging numerical targets for those reductions. We spoke with Eric Due, the Editor of The Japan Times in Tokyo, who told us that this non-committal resolution on climate change is failing to protect the environment. RealAudioMP3
