Pakistani Lawyers Protest President Musharraf

A cross-country convoy of Pakistani lawyers and political activists drove towards Islamabad today for a protest to demand the reinstatement of judges fired by President Pervez Musharraf last year.

Supporters of deposed Supreme Court chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry see his restoration as the first step in setting Pakistan on a path to democracy and justice.

Political parties backing the lawyers' movement hope Chaudhry's reinstatement will lead to the ouster of President Musharraf.

We spoke to Defence Analyst at the Pakistan Institute for International Affairs, Jack Ikramseghel, who says that, in time, the lawyers will be re-instated.
