Canadians Government Issues Apology to Aboriginal Canadians


(12 June 08-RV) Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper yesterday apologized to the 150,000 Aboriginal Canadian victims who were forcibly enrolled in the so called residential schools, where the students were supposed to be assimilated into the dominant culture. Funded by the Canadian government and largely run by Christian communities, the schools began operating in the late 19th Century, and the last of them closed only in the 1990s.
