United Nations FAO to Host Rome Summit on High Cost of Food
(29 May 08-RV) The United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organisation is set to host
a summit in Rome on June 3-5 to discuss the difficulties caused by record-high commodity
prices, which have doubled the food import bills of the poorest countries in the past
two years. On Sunday, Pope Benedict urged all Christians to help international efforts
to resolve a food price crisis that threatens to make millions more people go hungry.
The Holy See’s Permanent Observer to the FAO, Monsignor Renato Volante, spoke to us
about the appeal.
