(15 May 08 - RV) The Norwegian Refugee Council has released a study which shows the
number of internally displaced persons in 2007 was the highest ever recorded.
According
to the report 26 million people in 52 countries were forced to flee their homes last
year to escape violence, human rights violations and armed conflict, and half that
number involved people in Africa.
James Stapleton of the Jesuit Refugee Service
told us the situation won’t improve any time soon.
