Burmese Struggling in Absence of International Aid
(13 May 08-RV) UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has expressed "immense frustration"
at Burma's slow response to the cyclone that hit the country 10 days ago and killed
at least 32,000 people. Logistical bottlenecks, poor infrastructure and restrictions
imposed by the isolationist junta are largely delaying the desperately needed aid
for some 2 million severely affected survivors. We spoke with Father Chell So of Caritas
Burma, who told us that in the absence of international aid they are doing all they
can.
