(23 Apr 08 - RV) Clashes in the northern Jaffna peninsula of Sri Lanka today has
killed 52 Tamil Tigers and 38soldiers. The fighting in the country has intensified
since the government pulled out of a formal ceasefire deal in January. Earlier this
month the Sacred Heart Church in the town of Madu was destroyed in the fighting. The
Tamil Tigers have since occupied the building. Dr. Jehan Perera of the National Peace
