(28 Mar 08 - RV) A new report estimates that 125 million people could be displaced
in South Asia by the end of the century if global temperatures rise between 4-5 degrees
Celsius.
The report, issued by Greenpeace, says if such a rise happens the
people of the region will be displaced by rising sea levels and droughts associated
with shrinking water supplies and changes to the Monsoon season.
Bangladesh
alone could send 75 million people to India.
Greenpeace spokesperson Vinuta
Gobal says the Indian Government in particular is singled out in the report.
