(28 Mar 08 - RV) The North-Central African Nation of Chad is struggling to accommodate
more than 240,000 refugees from Sudan’s troubled Darfur region.
The refugees
are living in 12 official camps in eastern Chad, most of whom fled their homeland
because of fighting between government-backed militias and rebels.
Colm Burke,
a Member of the European Parliament from Ireland, is in Chad this week to raise awareness
about the humanitarian crisis.
He told us that the refugees will not return
home until proper security is in place.
